Today I experienced a slice of life that really lit up my weekend.
My son has just started playing soccer for a new team. My presence was requested as my nipper needed a lift and so did a couple of mates.

Traditionally these things start in pub car parks and today was no different. I arrived at the specified time to find the team manager pumping up his tyres, a slow puncture was suspected but not diagnosed. Things went from bad to worse as we left the car park. I didn't know where the pitch was and neither did the manager. We were to rely on his SatNav. Unfortunately I lost him as we entered traffic and had to race down the motorway to catch the posse.

Unfortunately for us not only did we not know where the match was but it seemed neither did our managers SatNav. I knew the match was in Washington and i knew that the best way there was to go two junctions down the road and Bob's you living Auntie. The SatNav was having non of it and treated us to scenic drive along the highways and byways probably well known to Durham citizens in the days before the horse and cart!
We eventually had to stop and ask directions in a children's play park from gathered parents. It turned out that, at the last moment, our leader had lost faith in his errant SatNav and turned around almost within sight of our destination. I kept to myself the fact that I drive past this ground on my to work at least once a week!

The journey was, it turned out the highlight of the trip. My lot lost by a large margin and the four goals that were blatantly offside would have made little difference to the outcome as they were hugely outclassed. The manager has his work cut out developing this lot as a team

I was never a soccer player so I was quite impressed by the amount of people that had turned out for Sunday morning sport this day. Some of it quite physical.

This is to be my Sunday mornings for the foreseeable future so I had better get used to it!
