Down on the south coast to see my Mum. It's her birthday and I haven't been to visit since August.
There was a list of odd jobs when I got down in the early hours of Saturday morning. We had completed most of them by Saturday Lunch time as they were all just small things that Mum either couldn't reach or couldn't lift. Plants moved around and cupboards cleared etc. The last one on the list was to rake the garden for fallen leaves.
I set about the task with gusto after a pleasant lunch of stilton and asparagus soup. However I was wilting quickly. I admit to not being the fittest person on the planet right now but I have started excercising again after something of a lay off. Soon however I was covered in sweat and it was trickling down my back. Mum's garden is quite big but having raked it the effort of collecting it all and depositing it some where else was all too much. So I stopped and did something more fun instead. Took my Mum to buy a new TV. Toshiba 32" LED 1080 dp HD Freeview. I hope she likes it as I will get the blame if she doesn't.
This morning I returned to the garden. I had heaped the leaves into barrow sized piles and got set to heap them into the composting pile. Like a compost bin but much bigger.
I became frustrated very quickly! no matter how much raking I did it looked as if I hadn't actually bothered. If it weren't for the huge pile in the corner of the garden some four foot tall and six feet across even I would have had difficulty believing I had raked anything!
I bet these tree hugging enviromentalists don't get to do all this. I was becoming so bitter that I was beginning to see deforestation as a positive step for civilization!
Ta ta for now. More Vancouver later I am afraid!
