If there are any regular readers to my blog they will be aware that I regularly slate this political party for :
The evidence for all this can be found on their website and in the national press. Recently yet another UKIP MEP has blotted their copy book by purporting that all the recent flooding in the UK is divine retribution for passing gay marriage into law. And this is not the first time UKIP have hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. And yet the nation still elects them. Well, into Europe anyway. The European parliament elections have a notoriously poor turn out and due to proportional representation you only need a handful of votes to get in.
The leader of UKIP is a very personable character in Nigel Farage. He is good at media work and comes across as a well reasoned individual. Even if he is a little delusional! The problem is the characters he has collected around him. You really don't have to scratch the surface of UKIP to find a pool of the Looney Right bubbling away underneath. Delusional, religious bigots.
The Delusion is that we could be better off outside the EU. For some reason they figure that being like Norway would be better. The Norwegians have access to the European free market zone but are powerless to influence it in any way as they are not signed up to Maastricht or the new treaty that Labour signed us up for.
Secondly we are not competitive enough to really take on the Pacific rim countries. It is just too expensive in the UK. since the '60's our industries had seen that these countries can produce stuff cheaper than we can buy the materials. Allied to that is the fact that most of our banking takes place because we are IN Europe but we are not too interfering (it HAS cost us dearly).
The truth is that we are too closely allied to Europe. UKIP want us remove any control we might have over the future of Europe. WE will always just have to put up or shut up. However we at present can get amongst them and make changes, no, demand changes. WE have an representation. Any other route would be like doing business with one arm behind our back.
