"Trojan Horse" Schools

The row over the so called Trojan Horse take over plot just goes to show the hole in Conservative Party politics. MP's from this party can be heard to say that that they are the party of "choice". That their party believes in allowing people to choose for themselves, that we don't need government to intercede on our behalf.

What this affair has highlighted is that faith schools have no place in the public sector. Not all the schools were of the "academy" variety that the Conservatives have pushed. But that doesn't detract from the fact that it is possible for faith groups to obtain public funding to pedal their own small minded ideals. I am not talking of Islam here either. I am talking Christian groups. From creationism to family planning. Here in Durham a Christian faith school prohibits it's children from participating in national telethon events "Sport relief" and "Comic Relief" All the other schools in the area have a non uniform day with a donation to the cause.

Allegedly some of the charities involved promote safe sex (including condoms) and this upsets the school authorities. So no non uniform day for these kids. Which is a shame as both  of these fund raising events do a lot to not only raise money but awareness of issues at home and abroad.

I think that if faith groups wish to peddle their beliefs they should have to pay for it. State funded schools should fund the education that the state requires. That sounds a little communist to be honest but my point is that the state should only pay for what it requires for national well being. I have fairly rigid ideas about that myself. We need Scientists, especially chemical scientist. I am not so keen on the arts. We don't need musicians! Designers maybe, but not musicians

I think i paid too much heed to Asterix the Gaul stories where the book always ended up with a hearty feat and the bard chained up inside his house!
