Oh know I said I was giving up on this blog but the last 2 and a half years of post Brexit vote have been an almighty cock up and it is completely down to the Conservative party and their MPs
Over the last 10 years they have been the party without a plan... For anything. Leave aside the whole financial crisis. For now.
A conservative prime minister decided to hold a referendum. A referendum he was arrogant enough to think he would win and had no plan for a "no" vote and jumped ship. Leaving a country divided like I haven't seen since the miners strike of '84 (another Tory manifestation).
The next incumbent then managed to lose any kind of mandate for negotiation by turning a 20 seat majority in the house of commons into another hung parliament.
So the foundations for the current impasse in Parliament over the Brexit negotiation were firmly laid back in 2017. Because they did not set out any kind of Brexit wish list to the electorate, nor did they appear to have any plan before instigating Article 50. Therefore we have a minority government negotiating for a future that we may or may not want. It would appear that the current deal is a typical political compromise trying to appeal (Or appease depending on your view) to as many people as possible.
What we have, as a result, is a deal that appeals to no one. Theresa May has no mandate from the country for her negotiation and is rightly finding it difficult to pass in parliament.
Democracy being what it is parliament appears to reflect it's electorate. The current impasse reflects the country at large. I don't believe there is a distinct consensus in the country over what type of Brexit we want
Therefore, I do believe another referendum is worthy. Not to re establish whether we should or shouldn't leave. That ship sailed. If Parliament cannot pass this legislation then it must go back to the electorate.
The question should be -
The deal as it stands
Or
Full Brexit
Simples
