Just watched the F1. Not the most inspiring race. However when I look at why it is not inspiring I feel rather guilty. Because there were few incidents. All the cars finished. The last race in Canada was much more exciting but the track was wet and driving was almost impossible. Lots of crashes and intrigue.
This kind of puts an argument in for sprinklers at courses to try and mix things up a bit. Which is just stupid. And dangerous.
If they really want to make racing exciting they should be more careful in their choice of courses. There are too many that enjoy good weather. That gives you races like this one which became a procession. It is no bad thing to have a track where the best car wins but over the course of a season you need to have run the full gamut of experience, unpredictability of weather for instance.
After the race there were a few e mails the BBC suggesting dropping Valencia as a circuit. Not fair to Valencia. It is not their fault that Red Bull have an almost unbeatable car and driver combination. Even their second driver is pretty good.
F1 just needs to make sure that in some way the racing is different. Sure all tracks are varied circuits but if all the circuits are good weather places then the cars are in the comfort zone as they all like to work at high temperature, tyres too.
Had there been some sort of incident the safety car could have been deployed. That usually wrecks somebody's race, changes of tyre choice, too low tyre temp etc. perhaps if by 3/4 of the race there has been no safety car they should deploy one at random just to bunch everyone up for the end.
That is stupid I know. but the processional nature of F1 leads to all the incessant rule changes. they are necessary to move the goal posts and allow someone to come up with something new.
Silverstone here we come.
So Valencia was not a disaster. If the rest of the season goes like that it will be. However the next GP is at Silverstone and the weather is notably difficult in England. Although Hockenheim can be worse and at Spa it can have different weather conditions on the track all at once. My favourite track on Playstation.
