On Saturday I treated myself to a new mobile phone. My last phone was a pay and go and I bought it in 2005. It was fine, small, had predictive text and WAP, which was rubbish. Still there you go. My Little Samsung finally blew a gasket when the charger disintegrated.
So I had the pleasure of choosing a new one. A boy's day out.
I have lusted after an iPhone4 for many months now but I am commitment averse and don't want a contract. Pay as you go is a very expensive option. in fact more expensive than an iPad. Which is over priced junk too!
I searched the Internet for an inexpensive phone and have to say I was tempted by a Blackberry. However I knew if i bought into blackberry i would not get an iPhone. And that is my goal. So i wanted to by an android phone that is 3G and stuff. All the phones I saw on the Internet weren't available on the high street.
I ended up in a Curry's as I had a gift card with some credit on it but both the phones i looked at were not in stock. So I nearly gave up. As a last resort i walked into Argos. And guess what? they had 2 phones left of the type I wanted. A Samsung Galaxy Europa. Not a top of the range but Android, takes apps, camera etc. £60 with £10 loaded on it.
Regular readers might recall I described a very pleasant evening in conversation with my daughters best friend's Mum. The evening just slipped by. Well on Saturday night 5 hours just disappeared as i loaded apps/games and surfed. Called my Mum. connected to wifi used the bluetooth. one minute i was sitting down with an evening ahead of me and the next thing i knew it was pitch black and my kids were saying goodnight.
I think it must be love!
I found this great free app called RunKeeper. It uses a GPS signal to track your distance. I think it also has programs that you can use for training. But it was great. I had the FM radio on walking off to the sunset and then every five minute a Sandra Bullock ish voice interjected over the radio telling me how long I had been walking. how far and average time per mile. It is quite accurate (i was a little worried the GPS might be iffy) I have measured the route on the Ordnance Survey and it is 1.47 miles and my phone had it at 1.44 miles. it is just SO COOL! all the other apps are games of which Angry Birds is the funniest by far. This should keep me busy until i feel ready to commit to an iPhone!
