Election Fever!

It has just been announced there are 100 days until the UK next goes to the polls to select it's government for the next 5 years (or less)

For the benefit of any non UK residents who might wish to partake of a little light background reading on the subject here is my submission on what the major issues are and who the main players are going to be

Let me start with...

The Conservative Party

As a group, the MP's of the above party are well heeled and well educated (expensive private school - rather a lot of Old Etonians in the government cabinet for my liking). In my history they have been the part y of the "Haves" (as oppossed to "have nots..") those people who have either come from wealthy backgrounds or have earned themselves wealth. They are very reluctantly sharing with the rest of us. Do not like public services, do not like the welfare state and would rather business was left alone to make itself obscene amounts of money. No rules help yourself. Devil take the hindmost

I find it very difficult to be objective about this party in case you hadn't noticed.

The Labour Party

It is the party of the labour force in name only these days. In the 21st Century it is a left of centre party. Any pretence of being a people's party was left behind by Tony Blair. Don't get me wrong, he and Gordon Brown actually did accomplish some decent things and they will probably never get credit for them - let's just say Iraq and Financial collapse and leave it at that.
The Labour party have the wrong brother in control and are making a pretty good fist of cocking up an election that should be theirs for the taking. The need to get the nations deficit under control and still get growth occurring should have made any winner of the 2010 election un electable. Labour are really making themselves look like buffoons. The party are also dominated by well educated, well heeled individuals but they support more socially conscious policies

The Liberal Party

Another party that should be done under the trade descriptions act. They are not at all liberal and only exist in the niche that states that there should be a third party in English politics. Spend most of their time inventing policy that is an alternative to the other two no matter how stupid that it looks

UK Independance Party

My least favourite political entity. Full of crackpots and fascists as far as I can make out. Nigel Farrage is a good front man and eloquent politician but he is at the front of his own vanity project - proof of this are the Looney Tunes that he allows in as his foot soldiers.
However they may hold the key to No. 10 Downing street. Their core vote is the usually solid Hard right of the Conservative party, those that think the Conservative machine has been much too  lily livered about the economy and immigration. This party might just make a difference in some marginal seats as it may split the Conservative vote, UKIP may just prevent them taking office for themselves.

Green Party

I have nothing to offer on this group. They have one sitting MP and are unlikely to make it 2. The green agenda is a nice idea but the practicals are unworkable

Monster Raving raving looney party

The most sensible people to ever seek a vote!! say no more

This has obviously become a bigger topic than I think can be covered in one blog so I will link this to my next one
