Merry Xmas
Tis the season to be Jolly etc. etc.
What are your fondest Christmas memories and/or rituals? Obviously my fondest memories are the ones where I am waiting for Santa to deliver all my goodies.
Doesn't Christmas change as you grow older. Once you are over the "Santa doesn't exist" thing (He does by the way! So there), the season to be jolly takes on a new dimensions. Until I discovered alcohol I was as materialistic as the next man - boy I mean. It was about the quality of the presents. I have said it now and I can't take it back. I was a greedy boy.
Once I had discovered the wicked beast of alcohol a whole new experience opened up to me. Xmas became a time when all sorts of exotic fare would make themselves welcome in my Liver. Dad used to make a trip, in the days leading up to the 25th, to a liquor store called Catisfield wine stores. It was a highllight of the holiday. All sorts of liquid comestibles could be swapped for large sums of money. The place had a faint whiff of stale beer. Marvellous!
It was a great time to get completely trollied in good company
Now all my friends and I have grown up and moved away. What is left? Back where it started, family. It is a day when we can all make an excuse to gather around the same dining table to enjoy a golden moment in time, a point of singularity where we believe we can make the world stand still. .
Oh yeah, and then there is something about the birth of a baby in improbable circumstances who was some kind of saviour, I am not sure about that bit, I never did pay attention in RE lessons!
Merry Christmas and good will to all men, peace on earth, guess that about covers it.
